Built by hand, kept lightweight

Backend-focused developer building practical, reliable software.

I'm Jordan, a Computer Science graduate based in Hertfordshire. I like working close to the logic of a system: debugging awkward problems, keeping websites fast, and writing code that is easy to come back to later.

Current priority: get into a junior role, become useful quickly, and keep improving by working around better developers.

Selected work

A few things I have actually built or worked on.

01

Prestige Carpet Cleaning

A real client website, not a mockup. I handled layout, service pages, mobile fixes, and small content updates after launch.

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Responsive design

02

Prestige Commercial

Similar client work for a commercial cleaning service. The useful part here was learning to make changes without breaking a live site.

  • Client work
  • Live updates
  • Deployment

03

Production support and troubleshooting

Support work taught me to be patient with messy problems: checking logs, isolating causes, documenting fixes, and not guessing.

  • Troubleshooting
  • Documentation
  • Systems support

04

Fractal renderer

A browser canvas project I added because I like visual debugging: tweak a value, render again, see immediately what changed.

  • Canvas
  • JavaScript
  • Interactive rendering

05

HTML & CSS study deck

A complete local-first flashcard system with spaced repetition, editable cards, study statistics, and sixty practical starter cards.

  • Spaced repetition
  • LocalStorage
  • Accessible UI

About

I would rather make the boring part solid than hide it behind polish.

My background is a mix of development, support, and fixing things that are already in use. That has made me fairly practical: before I reach for a clever solution, I want to understand what is actually failing and who it affects.

Backend development appeals to me because the work is measurable. The code either handles the case correctly, stores the data safely, responds quickly enough, and gives the next person enough context to maintain it.

Stack

Tools I have used enough to be useful with.

Programming

C#, Java, and Python. I am most comfortable when I can break a problem into smaller pieces and test the behaviour as I go.

Web development

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, ASP.NET MVC, and WordPress. This site is deliberately plain static HTML because it does not need more.

Systems and databases

MySQL, MongoDB, Git, Linux, and Windows troubleshooting. I have also spent time around production support, where small details matter.

Open to junior developer opportunities.
